James Edward Lamb died on May 1, 2004, in College Station, Texas, at the age of 82.
Edward was born on December 25, 1921, to James Henry and Mamie Nancy Sexton Lamb, in Marianna, Florida. As a teenager, he asked his father to sign for him to join the Civil Conservation Corps (also known as the 3C’s) as he was too young to enlist himself. As a member, he helped to fight fires in the Okefenokee Swamp in Florida.
He later married Alice D. Calhoun, of Dothan, Alabama, and in March of 1947, she gave birth to their only child, a son, Charles Edward.
Edward continued to serve his country as an Army private in World War II, and later as an Air Force sergeant in the Korean Conflict. Later, he was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, where he worked as a chef.
After serving for 20 years, he retired from the Air Force and went on to hold several jobs (usually two at a time), mostly in the food service industry, in Maryland, Georgia, and Texas. He retired for the final time in 1978, from a restaurant in Austin, Texas, where he worked as a chef.
In Edward’s later years, he enjoyed playing golf with his son and keeping up with current events. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE), the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He was also a member of Senior Friends in College Station, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three of his four sisters, Alice, Anna, and Francis, and his two ex-wives, Alice and Dovie.
He is survived by his wife Bernice of College Station, Texas, his son and daughter-in-law, Charles Edward and Fran Lamb of College Station, Texas, his granddaughter, Jennie Lynne Lamb, of College Station, Texas, his step-granddaughter, Chanel DeAnn Cobb of San Diego, California, his sister and brother-in-law, Annie and Joe Kent of Marianna, Florida, as well as several nieces, nephews, a large extended family, and many friends.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 A.M. — 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 4, in the chapel of Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Live Oak Cemetery in Austin, Texas.
